Placenta Services, offered by Dedicated Doula Services, is the process of preparing the placenta for consumption (placentophagy). Placentophagy has been reported for decades to help avoid the baby blues and diminish postpartum fatigue. For those who are already feeling squeamish, Traditional Chinese Medicine offers the benefits of the placenta in the approachable form of encapsulation. The placenta may be taken similar to an herb pill—only a glass of water is needed!
In the postpartum period the placenta capsules may be used to: (1) balance your hormones, (2) enhance milk supply, and (3) increase your energy.
Although current research on human placentophagy does not exist, what we do know is that women who take placenta capsules report fewer emotional issues, have more energy and tend to enjoy a faster, more pleasant postpartum recovery. Your first days, weeks, and months with your baby are precious, so give yourself the best chance of enjoying this time together!
